It's Spring
Well - if not in temperature - at least it was the spring concert tonight. I realize the last time I posted pictures there was snow on the ground.
I have found that somehow between 4 baby chickens, 3 children, 2 cats, and 1 husband - that somehow I have lost all time and energy to blog lately. I wish that we could install a webcam outside so you could all see these beautiful babies enjoying the farm. We recently planted a garden, berry bushes, built a playset (well Gpa Terry did, but we watched), tore off 1/4 wall of wallpaper (we now refer to that wall as abstract art), and try to get outside as much as possible. Abram has about one month left of pre-school and will be going to kindergarten in the fall. Stella will be going to preschool and Isabel will be left with me.
Tonight we enjoyed the beautiful music at the spring concert. Abram did a great job singing, doing the motions and not rolling his eyes at me once! Stella and Isabel entertained our half of the gym with their improv dance moves.
I have started posting pictures to Instagram under 'sscomstock' if anyone else is on there. It's a bit easier for me to take pictures with my phone on the go. I'll still be trying to update the blog more regularly but that will be another place to keep up with the kiddos.
Happy Spring!

Tales From the Crib
This seems like a common refrain on our blog but do not read on if you are squeamish - or if you currently do not have children but would like to one day.
There will be no pictures for this post. While there are no pictures of the event in question - it will be forever seared into my memory.
It was a cold and windy afternoon. Stella and Isabel were sound asleep for the afternoon naps in their bedrooms and Abram was playing quietly (really he was watching cartoons but writing that makes me feel guilty so..), he was playing quietly while I was mixing up a batch of cookies.
All was well, I felt so good, so confident in my parenting skills (minus the cartoon watching). I should have known then that it was too good to be true.
I heard Isabel making noises so I went to the bottom of the stairs to see if it sounded like she would go back to sleep or wake up. Then....I heard Stella talking........then I heard Stella talking to Isabel.
I ran up the stairs as fast as my 5'4 body could go.
It was too late.
Isabel's door was ajar.
My heart stopped.
I wondered - was Stella hurting Isabel? Was she giving her small toys that would be choking hazards? Was she trying to pull her out of the crib. Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw next.
Stella was in Isabel's crib. Naked. Feces was EVERYWHERE. I really mean everywhere. (actually it wasn't at all on Isabel which is a major miracle). After I vomited in my mouth - I started screaming "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"
Stella, totally unfazed "I dunno"
I'm not sure how to end that story. I now live in a constant state of fear - more than usual. I think they may have to invent a new label for what I've gone through: PTMD, Post Traumatic Mothering Disorder.
To be continued...

Uncle Andy
We got a special treat for Isabel's birthday - Uncle Andy visited with Jon, Jess, and the girls. They drove all the way down from Minnesota for the weekend. Since I'm speed blogging to get everything up I won't narrate all the pictures but know that the cousins had a blast and were pretty sad to see the Minnesota vanful drive back home.
Isabel Turned 1 (almost 2)
Well, she's not really almost 2 but it has taken me awhile to post her birthday blog. My dad is staying with us for a week and it's easier to find time to put up pictures than to have him not so quietly hinting that it has been awhile.
Our baby turned 1 back on December 29th. I really, truly cannot believe she's already one. I keep trying to get her to hold still so I can cuddle my sweet little baby but she'd much rather be learning to walk or chasing the cats.
Things I want to remember about her at this age:
-She absolutely, positively loves her older brother and sister. She gets so wild when she sees Abram get off the school bus that she nearly knocks herself over.
-Isabel is a wonderful eater. She devours anything we give her. She especially loves fruit and veggies which is wonderful. If she sees something that she's excited about eating she lets whatever is currently in her mouth just drop out and goes for the new item. She gets the most excited about any kind of berry.
-She doesn't have a lot of distinguishable words but has been known to say things that sound like: hot, mama (not in the same sentence), no (learned from an un-named older sister), bye-bye, and night-night.
-She has the most adorable bye-bye wave.
-Her eyes are a beautiful blue, that look like big, bright, blueberries (one of her favorite berries)
-She enjoys being read to.
-She is the only one of the three kids who is truly a mama's girl - and I have to say that I kind of love that (unless it's 3 a.m. and she doesn't want Josh to even look at her).
We love you Isabelly!

Moving to the Farm
Yesterday my dad told me I hadn't updated the blog since Halloween - I thought he was being dramatic. I hopped on tonight to prove him wrong and then it happened, the one time a year I am wrong and it had to be at midnight on a Friday night. So here I am updated pictures when I should be sleeping - only for you GPA Terry - only for you :)
The reason that I haven't updated the blog is because we had some big news - we MOVED! Josh accepted a new position at an algae plant (he thinks it should be referred to as a farm so hence forth it will be called the algae farm) in Shenandoah, Iowa, conveniently located 5 miles from my grandparents farm. So we spent all of November packing, and donating, and throwing, and packing, and cleaning, and very little sleeping or evidently blogging.
We traveled from Indiana to Iowa on Thanksgiving Day with the help of Josh's brothers and sister's-in-law, parent, aunts, etc., etc. We could not have done it without their help so - Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
They moved us in, tore up flooring, put together various IKEA furniture, cleaned, cooked and loved on our children.
About a week after moving in GPA Terry came down to celebrate and early Christmas with us. He dressed up as Santa with a beard and all for the kids.
Aunt V was down plenty to help and to play.
You'll notice in pictures of the farm house, wallpaper, lots and lots of wallpaper. Hopefully over the next year you will see less and less wallpaper and not just because it is falling off the walls of it's own accord.
In front of the wallpaper you will see Miss Isabel on her new train. She loves riding it around when she can get it away from her brother and sister who assure me that Isabel really likes sharing with them and that they didn't take it from her and make her cry.
It lights up and makes all kinds of fun noises.
Abram has really enjoyed getting into the spirit of the season. On this particular frosty morning - he told Josh that he was really cold. Instead of following the mainstream and putting on clothes to stay warm - he decided to put on his santa hat to stay warm.
It must be a very warm hat because here he is eating breakfast in pretty much just the hat and looks pretty cozy.
It must have gotten pretty cold for him to have put on some clothes. The kid really likes being naked.
A picture of two little girls with a lot more layers on :)
We made use of the tiny bit of snow that we got to go sledding - they would have gone all day if mama wasn't such a wimp!
When Isabel kept squirming away Stella had the great idea for me to stick her in her carseat while I finished getting ready. She's squeezed in there like a little pink sardine.
After a hard day of sledding we decided to make cookies. Don't worry there are no eggs in the batter so we can lick the beaters all we want!!!!
Abram has that sugar-glazed eye thing going on here.
Isabel doesn't get to lick the beater but she doesn't seem to mind.
Finally - we visited Santa. Stella zoomed straight past the line and right into Santa's lap.
You can get away with things like that when you're that cute. She promptly told him she wanted a prezass for Christmas. Santa incorrectly interpreted that as 'presents' which she continued to inform him 'prezass, I want a prezass.' I feel sorry for all of you who didn't know that meant 'princess.
Clearly you need to catch up on your two-year-old interpretation skills.
Isabel wasn't so sure about the big guy in red but at least she didn't cry.
Abram on the other hand was very skeptical and this was about as close as he got - and really only then because Santa had a candy cane to lure him in with. Candy + making sure Santa knows you want a spider-man web shooter = Abram willing to get 3 feet foot radius of strange man in giant red suit.
