1 Year Old Today!

Mr. Abram officially turned 1 today.  He celebrated this morning by eating pancakes with Papa and then this afternoon he dug into to some chocolate cake.  Sounds like a pretty good birthday to me.

I took these pictures this evening in the front yard and I think they show how big he's getting.

We put a very tired, but very happy baby to bed tonight.

Birthday Boy

We had a birthday party for Abram today in the park (his actual birthday is Monday).  The man of honor had a late nap and missed the first half of the party.  When he did arrive he was a little bit sleepy.  He soon woke up and got into the party.

 

Abram had a bear cake and a bear pinata, one of his nicknames is baby bear because he likes to growl so much.

 

Abram had a little bit of cake but didn't care for it too much. 

 

My dad always made pinatas for our birthdays growing up so I thought I would do the same thing.  Well I should have asked him for better directions.  Everything started off well until the kids pulled the ribbon and the bear went crashing to the ground.  Luckily it didn't hit anyone.   We rebounded and I just shook all of the prizes out - it seemed to be just as fun.

 

The day ended with a very happy and tired baby bear.  At the end of the party he blew his very first kiss to the departing guests.  It was the cutest thing ever!   Here he is showing off his new skills to grandma.

We want to thank everyone for the all of your help, support and love this past year.   It really does take a village - Abram (and his parents) are very lucky to have such wonderful support.

Mother's Day

I had a wonderful first Mother's Day.  Nana Comstock was able to come over and we had lots of fun.  We went out to brunch and then came back and finished planting a small garden and got my flowers in the front yard.  Sunday morning Abram woke up about 6:30 and was playing in the living room with Josh and I when he decided all by himself that he wanted nana to get up so he went to her closed door and started pounding on it.  He was pretty surprised when she actually opened the door.  Normally when he pounds on doors nobody is behind them.

Abram enjoyed playing outside - he helped with planting.  He decided the cilantro was in the wrong place so he helped by yanking it out of its pot and placing in a better place.  He is such a good helper!

Abram had a cold earlier this week and has graciously passed it on to Josh and I.  Abram is feeling much better but unfortunately Josh is still under the weather.  Abram took full advantage of Josh's disabled state and pounced on him tonight.

Abram was the clear winner...

Abram has conquered and you can see he's scooted off to greener pastures (AKA kitty cats), you can barely make out his pant leg in the bottom of the picture.  I hope to be posting pictures later this week of a before and after shots of Abram and Josh after their haircuts.  Wish us luck.

Under the Weather

We've started out this week with a sick little boy.  While Abram isn't feeling well - I think it may be worse for mama and papa.

 

Even feeling as sick as he does he still finds time to play - the kid has his priorities straight.

 

He got this truck for Christmas but is just now getting big enough to actually play with it.  The first thing he learned to do is honk the horn.

 

I am one sick little boy :(

 

Thank you Peter and Liz for hanging out with our little one and helping to distract him today.

Wild Child

It was rainy and gray this weekend but we still had a nice weekend at home.  While we weren't traveling anywhere, Abram kept us on our toes.

He loves to sit under his bouncer.  He thinks it's his cave.

 

He also loves chasing the camera.  I got a few cute shots before he got it from me.

So I had to add a story.  This weekend while we were eating lunch I realized that Abram was using sign language to say that he wanted 'more.'  At first I thought it was a coincidence but he kept using it appropriately throughout the weekend.  I am so glad Abram is able to go to a great daycare that can teach him about using sign language - when he's at home with us we can barely keep his face clean!

When I asked his teacher if they had been teaching signing, she said they had but Abram was using the sign for 'more' selectively.  Namely he was only using it during snack time and not during regular meals.  Another sign he takes after his mama - gotta love those snacks.

It seems like every day he learns something new, has a new sound or face.  This first year is flying by.  I can't believe my baby is almost 1.  

4 Generations & Turning 11 Months Old

We had a busy weekend - Abram was able to meet his Great Grandpa Rex and Great Grandma Jerry and he turned 11 months old!
 
In this picture is Rex (Martin's Dad), Martin (Josh's Dad), Abram and Josh.  It was great to see them all together.  

This is the first time Abram met G.G. Rex.   Notice the drool stain that goes down to his belly.  We had just gotten out of the car and he was cutting a tooth.

You can see Jill (a black lab) in this picture but Abram was determined all weekend to catch her and show her how much he loves her.  He was so excited he would let out a shriek before taking off after her.  Fortunately for Jill that was her cue to take off for another room.

Here you can see Josh showing Abram how to pet gently - rather than the 'grab and twist' method of petting that Abram has perfected with our cats.  

The word of the weekend was definately - GENTLE.

Abram also got lots of love from Grandma Linda.  He's pretending to drink from a cup in this picture.  There is a lot less spilling when Abram pretends to drink.

Uncle Jon prefers camo shirts.  Abram was not short on fun people to hand out with.

The weekend would not be complete without a snooze in Grandpa Martin's recliner - I don't think Abram was as excited about nap time but he does love hanging out with his grandpa.

Abram's April Adventures

I apologize for not posting in quite awhile.  In the past few weeks we've had a convergence of Abram's increased mobility and our increased busyness and the result has been an utter lack of pictures and time to post the ones we do have.  The entire series of photos below was taken on Josh's camera phone since I've gotten pretty bad at remembering the camera.

This was taken quite awhile ago as Abram is still in his snowsuit.  This semester Josh and Abram have been hanging out in the mornings and then Abram goes to daycare in the afternoon.  One morning Josh sent me this picture of Abram while I was at work.  I was shocked - this was the first time he had sat in the cart instead of the carseat.  After giving Josh the 3rd degree about the sanitation of the cart I realized how adorable and grown up Abram was getting.

Josh titled the picture below 'Play Jail.'

For a week or so before we managed to babyproof the house while Abram was starting to move he was relegated to the pack-n-play while we made dinner.

The past few weeks have been full of nice long walks.

Easter Sunday Abram took his first trip to the park.  He loved it!

I think Josh liked the park as much as Abram.

No....I know he liked it more than Abram.

His new favorite game is using his sandpail for a hat.  Each day when Abram comes home from daycare he has a little written report about his day.  Lately he's been receiving good comments for playing in the sandbox and NOT eating any sand.  We couldn't be prouder :)

I saved the best for last.  I believe there is picture of me floating around somewhere from Karen's house in the exact same pose.  Score one for nature over nurture.
